TRAVELLING TO WESTON - super - Mare
By Rail and Air
The nearest Railway Station is “Weston Milton”. Although most local services stop here, unless you have arranged a ‘pick-up’, you are advised to use the main Weston-super-Mare station at all times. Why not visit our Club by air? Affordable flights are available into the local Bristol International Airport from most regional airports in the UK and Ireland.
By Road (see panel below)
Weston-super-Mare is close to the M5 Motorway, offering good connections with the Midlands and South-West of England. Additionally, the M4 Motorway crosses the M5 just North-West of Bristol, and the M4 connects with South Wales (£5.20 toll westwards only), North Wiltshire, Berkshire, and Greater London. On the M5, leave at Junction 21 if travelling from the North, or Junction 22 if travelling from the South.
From the South, the A36 (Southampton) and A37 (Dorchester) provide reasonable connection, although roads east of Weston are poor around the Mendip area; whilst having the appearance of a reasonably direct road, both roads from Bath (A368) and Wells (A371) are narrow and twisty in places, and should be avoided with coaches. Your route with a coach should be either to head North and use the M4, or head West using the A303 and A358 to Taunton, joining the M5 at Junction 25
Parking
It will not be possible to park inside Ashcombe Park, unless special arrangements have been made with the Council for the match, but there is some road-side parking immediately past the Park entrance. Parking on the opposite side of the road is somewhat limited, although residential streets provide adequate road-side parking places. Coaches will normally be able to off-load immediately outside the Park entrance.
Coaches may park just past the Park entrance; there is more space further along beside the park play area. Alternatively, park at the top of the Park (continue along road, out of town, through Milton, and turn left at traffic controlled cross roads. At end of road, at the top of the hill, turn left, and continue to Park on left. Park here, and driver may walk down through Park to the Club ground. After the match, continue along past the park, and take the third turning on your left, into Manor Road. Go down the hill to the main Milton Road. Turn left, and the Ashcombe Park entrance will be on your left.
TRAVELLING TO OUR CLUB
GOOGLE MAPS WARNING
We had to contact Google because they were showing our Club to be at the wrong location. We have corrected the location, but Google has put our “incorrect location note” on the new CORRECT location. The picture reference only applies when you search for our Club on Google, it has no meaning if you are using Google Maps to find our Club. We are continuing to try to change this note, but no success yet!
Google states “This location is incorrect for Ashcombe Park Bowing Club. See other location in Park with picture. This is where you will find us.”
From M5 (J21 Traveling from North), or Bristol (A370)
The preferred route is ideal for visitors new to our Club, and approaches the Park on the left, to avoid crossing over the main road. There is a sign-post pointing towards the main Park entrance. From the Motorway, take the third exit on roundabout at Junction 21. This is the A370, a dual-carriageway road to the centre of Weston-super-Mare. There are a number of medium-sized roundabouts, which should be approached using the centre or outside lane. It will eventually split into a one-way (still dual-carriageway) road, passing the out-of-town shopping area. Move into the near-side lane.
At the end of this stretch of road, the two carriageways join again; keep going until reaching a main roundabout where you will need to turn right. The main A370 road is straight ahead, over a new bridge, but you need to take the road to the right, into the A3033. Travel over a railway bridge, and cross over the main road, into Ashcombe Road. Go across a mini-roundabout, then turn right at the main road ‘T’ junction; this is Milton Road.
Travel along this road for about half a mile, and Ashcombe Park will be approached on your left-hand side.
Note: Sat-Navs may take you direct to our Club, so that you arrive on the opposite side of the road. There is a zebra crossing shortly after the Park entrance.
From M5 (J22 Travelling from South)
The preferred route is fairly direct, although it may be prone to traffic hold-ups at peak times. From the Motorway, take the A38 north to a roundabout at the junction with the A370 to Weston-super-Mare. Follow to A370 toward the outskirts of the town, the road eventually drops down a hill to a roundabout by Weston hospital. Cross the roundabout following the A370 into Bridgwater Road, which later bends to the left.
As the road straightens take the A3033 right, immediately before a school; this is Devonshire Road. Cross over a humped-back railway bridge; the road now becomes Drove Road. At the next roundabout, is the main dual-carriageway into Weston; cross over this roundabout.
NOTE: If Travelling from the South or South East - get onto the A303. Take the A358 at “Horton Cross”, and continue along this road to join the M5 Motorway (Junction 25).
From Wales or the East (via the M4 Motorway)
Using the M4 from Cardiff or London, follow the M4 to the Almonsbury interchange with the M5 (South West). Then follow the M5 and exit at Junction 21. See route details (traveling from North) above.
A371(Wells), A368 (Bath)
Although having the appearance of a reasonably direct road, both roads are narrow and twisty in places, and should be avoided with coaches. Follow signs to Weston-super-Mare, and you will eventually come to Banwell. This village has very narrow roads, and is a notorious ‘bottle-neck’ at peak times. After Banwell, the road is very good, eventually joining the main A370 into the town. Follow instructions as ‘From North’ “... This is the A370, a dual-carriageway road to the centre of Weston... “
