In both Opening Days, Club Members began proceedings with a special challenge to see who could get closest to the jack, bowling from the ‘ditch’. This was followed by a competition between teams selected by the President, and Captain. The day concluded with an excellent tea.
Men’s President Opening Day
At the Men’s President Opening day around 80 members competed in a friendly between teams chosen by President, Tony Williams, and Club Captain, Alan Freke, whose side won by 164 shots to 114. Although showers had been forecast, the sun kept shining, and the Men’s Section enjoyed a pleasing opening day.
Ladies’ President Opening Day
The Ladies’ President, Sylvia Noyes, presided at their Opening Day, and as well as a good turnout of Members, there were many guests representing Clubs throughout the Area. Although the day was sunny, the wind felt cold, but this did not distract the Ladies’ section from having a very enjoyable opening day to their season.
The season opened with the Men’s President Opening Day, on Saturday 12th April, followed by the Ladies’ President Opening Day on Thursday 17th April. Details are provided below.
