NEW BLAZERS for the LADIES

Our ladies will be replacing their existing yellow blazers with new black ones.  These are being supplied from a local manufacturer, and will be tailored to perfection.  It is hoped that the new black blazers will be available for the Ladies’ President Opening Day, on 19th April.  Pictures of the blazer  will be provided after this date - so that they can be properly introduced to the Club.  The Ladies originally wore brown blazers, but these were later replaced with white.  The yellow blazers were introduced quite recently, but further supplies could not be obtained, despite the Club having ample quantities of material.

Redevelopment of the Kitchen Area:  Alan Little originally looked at ideas for the redevelopment of the Kitchen, and provided an estimate of work proposed.  Senior Club members saw the ideas, but felt that there could be other alternative plans which would provide better options.  One question needing consideration, is the extent of food preparation that will be required; this is being coordinated by Bob Kibble, and will extend to include the purchasing of domestic appliances.

Catering Manager:  Sylvia Hopkins has offered to take on the role of Catering Manager.

Men’s Somerset League Teams:  Next year, the Club will be fielding a third team “Ashcombe ‘C’.  It is hoped that this team will prove as successful as the third team, “The Templars”, has been in the over-60’s.  Teams ‘A’ and ‘B’ will be passing each other   - the ‘A’ team being demoted to league North 2, and the ‘B’ team being promoted to league North-1.  It would seem simple to leave both teams where they were, but in any event, the Club must acknowledge the performance of their ‘B’ team players.

Weston & District Over-60’s league:  The “Knights” have been promoted to the first division. The “Templars” have achieved a very creditable result in winning 50% of their games, and subsequently did not finish bottom of the league.

Ladies’ Wessex League:  The ladies’ team finished third, in what had been a very tight finish.

Drink up thy Cider!:  Eddy Hopkins, Bar Manager, advises that Thatchers Cider will be on draft next season.

Centenary Badge cost:  The cost of Centenary Brochures/Badges are being reduced from £3 to £2 to clear stock held.

Club Keys:  The cost of a club key to new members, and replacements for current members, has been increased to £2.50p

Parking in the Park:  With increasing use of the park land for car parking, details are now being drawn, with cost estimates, for a grass-area covering, to provide for a semi-permanent car parking space.

Green-keeping Charges:  There is to be a slight increase in green-keeper charges, but since these are in line with current costs, the Club has agreed a two-year fixed price contract for maintenance work on the two greens.

Westcliff Day:   Whilst the Westcliffe day has always been very enjoyable, Members now feel it is time for a change. It is proposed to shorten the day, and change the Pig Roast to a BBQ. Also under consideration  is that a jazz band could play during the evening.

Hearing Loop:  The Club now has a portable hearing loop, which can be placed on a table so that Members and visitors can hear conversations clearly though their hearing aid.  Additionally, the new pay phone incorporates a built-in hearing loop.

Extractor Fans:  A feasibility study will look into the fitting of extractor fans in the toilet areas.
