APRIL FRIENDLIES - MATCH REPORTS
The 'Ashcombians' opened their Centenary season with a win and a defeat, playing friendly matches against local clubs. In their first match on Saturday 16th, against Congresbury at home, they lost by 25 shots (96-121), winning on two of the six rinks. The following day, also at home, they recorded a seven shot victory against Burnham-on-Sea. (The wording "Ashcombians" reflects what the Mercury used to call the Club in their earlier days).

Ashcombe 114 : St. ANDREWS 115 Mixed (Away: 19th)
An early, friendly mixed match at our neighbours, St. Andrews was a closely contested game. After ten ends Ashcombe lead by some 17 shots, winning on five of the six rinks, but St. Andrews rallied, finally winning by just one shot.

Ashcombe 119 : North PETHERTON 98 Mixed (Home: 21th)
Playing at home, Ashcombe eased this mixed match encounter with North Petherton, loosing on just one rink. The return match will be on Wednesday 10 August. Ashcombe 102 : KNOWLE (Bristol) 98 Men’s (Away: 23rd)
The Men's friendly against Knowle is often a closely run match, and this year was no exception, with Ashcombe winning away by just 3 shots. Ashcombe had led by some 25 shots after 10 ends, but as the match progressed it became much closer, with Ashcombe clinching it on the final ends, winning a total of 8 shots.

Ashcombe re-commenced playing friendly matches against Ardagh (Bristol) last year, and although Ashcombe again failed to win the game, two rinks have been won on each occasion. This year the first match was at home. Ashcombe 107 : BRIDGWATER 112 Men's (Home: 30th)
A home match against Bridgwater saw the visitors win this local Men's friendly six-rinker by just five shots. It was close, right up to the final two ends where Bridgwater picked up nine shots to seal the game.

A 'stroll in the park' for Ashcombe, winning this, the first of two home friendlies with the Bristol city club. A visit to the 'all-weather surface' at Wrington usually presents a challenge, and this visit was no exception. However, Ashcombe always enjoy the welcoming friendliness of the Club.
