Ladies’ Section
At all Club Matches, regulation dress shall be worn; this is a white blouse, white skirt or white regulation trousers; three-quarter length white trousers may be permissible for some matches. Bowling shoes should be brown or white (sandals are not allowed for play).
It is now permissible for players to wear a gold/yellow cardigan, and, although not formally adopted, players should try to obtain similar garments both in colour and style. The item that Ladies have adopted is available from www.DamartOnline and is a Leisure Cardigan (TQK776X) in colour lemon, priced from £15.
Players and reserves should arrive at the Clubhouse wearing their gold Club jacket, and cravat.
Hats are not compulsory, but, if worn on the green, can be plain white or regulation style.
Grey skirts or trousers, are permissible for the Monday “Club Day”, ‘roll-ups’, and Club Competitions, except for the finals.
Men’s Section
At all Club Matches, players and reserves should arrive at the Clubhouse wearing a white shirt and club tie, a dark blue, or black blazer with Club badge, and grey (or white) trousers. This should also be worn, afterwards, in the Clubhouse, but on warm days, the Captain of the day may advise that blazers need not be worn.
Afternoon Matches (also applies to Presidents’ days): Whites, with white or brown shoes. Normally it is permissible to wear a white open-necked polo shirt (preferably tucked in!) with club badge and your name (optional). Tailored white shirts should otherwise be worn, with a tie, although this is not mandatory (the wearing of ties is no longer at the discretion of the Captain of the day, but should opponents from another Club all wear a tie, then Members should respect this, and a tie should be worn if wearing a tailored shirt). New this year, players can opt to wear tailored white shorts with knee-length white socks, providing that the weather is expected to remain dry.
Evening Matches: Whites above the waist, and grey trousers. Shoes may be white, brown, or Grey (new this year). The same ruling applies for shirt and tie as for afternoon matches.
Competitions (and markers): As for evening matches. However, for the finals day, ‘whites’ should be worn.
Roll-Ups: As for evening matches, although more casual lightly coloured shirts may be worn. Ties are usually not worn.
Rain Wear
Contrary to popular belief, the game of bowls can be played in the rain, providing that the green has been passed fit by the green-keeper, and subsequently, by the Captain of the day. Water-proof white protective coats and trousers may be worn whenever it is raining, or when there is a threat of rain. Coats may incorporate a hood. An umbrella may be employed.
Note: Advice on dress for ‘Trainees’ is included in the “Training” section.
