On Saturday 9th April, Mayor, Councillor Philip Judd, bowls the first wood to open the green on this, our Centenary season. Afterwards there was a friendly match between teams representing the President (Roy Powell) and Captain (John Main), with the President winning by 10 shots.
In the very first game, two teams were captained by Councillors E S Stradling (President H Butt’s team), and G W H Pearse (Captain H Pike’s team), with the President winning by 46 shots.

As part of our Centenary celebrations, Bowls England sent a representative team to play members of Ashcombe Park Bowling Club in a Presidents’ Celebration Match.
The match was played on Saturday 11 June, in pleasant conditions, and was won by Ashcombe, with an overall score of 138 shots to 97. The game was much enjoyed, but this time the result was of lesser importance. and we thank members of Bowls England for travelling some distances to play the game, We were particularly honoured that Bowls England President Joan Balding came, and she played against Ashcombe President Roy Powell, in the ‘top’ rink.
