Club Outings and Bowling Day-Tours
Each year we enjoy a day’s outing, which is arranged by Club Life Member Audrey Kearns. This page provides a photo-album of the days, together with some notes. The Club also arrange day-tours when they we visit another Bowling Club for a match. Our last tour was to Paignton, and photos are again provided, with some details.
DAY TOUR to PAIGNTON (10th August 2008)
Our Club hired a coach from their new sponsor, Bakers-Dolphin coaches, which enabled more Members to come to Paignton, in addition to those playing in the match. Pictures show Club Members arriving at Paignton, and various ‘shots’ of the game ( note the ‘pun’). Paignton Bowling Club is adjacent to the railway station, and the Paignton and Dartmouth steam railway, and not far from the lovely beach, and seafront lawns. The teddy was previously awarded to the ‘worst’ rink, but now he just sits on the bar, displaying his numerous badges. Many thanks to Paignton Bowling Club for their warm hospitality, and a very enjoyable match. It was a pity that there was heavy rain on the day Paignton came to Weston, and the match had to be abandoned after tea.
CLUB OUTING - RIVER TRIP to BATH (Wednesday 2nd July 2008)
Each year the Club arrange an outing. In 2008 a trip was arranged to take a river cruise from Keynsham to Bath. The weather was overcast as we set out to join our boat at keynsham lock. Whilst we ‘sailed’ up river we enjoyed an inclusive lunch, but then - down came the rain - very heavy showers. However, when we arrived at Bath the rain stopped, the sun came out, and we all enjoyed a walk around the city before our coach ride home. Thanks to Audrey Kearns for making all the arrangements, and giving the Club great days out. Verdict- an excellent day out - enjoyed by all.
CLUB OUTING - WEST-SOMERSET STEAM RAILWAY (Wednesday 5th August 2009)
Each year the Club arrange an outing, using our sponsor - Backers-Dolphin Coaches. In 2009 a trip was arranged to travel to Minehead by steam railway on the West Somerset Heritage Railway The weather was overcast as we set out but remained dry, and the sun came out as we approached the sea. We had over four hours to soak up the sea air! Thanks a ‘bunch’ to Audrey Kearns for arranging the trip again this year. Pictures of the day hopefully re-capture the atmosphere ...
