DRESS CODE
The dress code adheres to the Somerset County Dress Code.  Information is supplied here for Members, and prospective Members alike.  The information expands on that given in the Club Handbook.
SHOES
Strictly, flat-bottomed bowling shoes must always be worn on the green.  These must not be worn to the Club.
LADIES’ SECTION
At all Club Matches, regulation dress shall be worn; this is a white blouse, white skirt or white regulation trousers; three-quarter length white trousers may be permissible for some matches.  Bowling shoes should be black or white (sandals are not allowed for play).
It is now permissible for players to wear a gold/yellow cardigan, and, although not formally adopted, players should try to obtain similar garments both in colour and style.  The item that Ladies have adopted is available from www.Damart.co.uk and is a Leisure Cardigan (TQK776X) in colour lemon, priced from £15.
Players and reserves should arrive at the Clubhouse wearing their new Black Club jacket, and cravat.
When playing in a Club shirt, until procedures are clarified, please change into the shirt at the Club.
Hats are not compulsory, but, if worn on the green, can be plain white or regulation style.
Grey skirts or trousers, are permissible for the Monday “Ladies’ Afternoon”, “Mixed Umbrella”, ‘roll-ups’, and Club Competitions, except for the finals.
MEN’S SECTION
All Members must have a Club blazer, dark navy or black.  Existing Members will have been given a Club shirt; new members may be able to purchase a Club shirt from the Club, although supplies are limited.
AFTERNOON MATCHES (see exceptions below):
Formal Statement:   Club or white shirt with white trousers or tailored shorts with white ankle length or knee length socks. White or brown shoes. Club blazer with white shirts; alternatively club shirts to be worn with bomber jacket or blazer.
Interpretation (in play):  Club or white polo-style shirt or tailored white shirt (with or without tie).  White trousers with white socks, or alternatively, in warmer weather, tailored white shorts with white ankle-length or knee-length socks. White or brown shoes, but not grey, and only white shoes with shorts.   On hotter days, the Captain of the day may advise players wearing a tie, that they may remove it if they so wish.  Club shirts look better when worn outside of trousers. White polo-style shirts should have the club badge, with your name optional; badges are embroidered onto new clothing by Promotional Peaks of Backwell (see note at foot of page)
Interpretation (arrival at Club and wearing in Lounge after match):  When wearing a Club shirt to play, these may be worn before and after the match with a bomber jacket, white bowls jacket or blazer.  Otherwise, when wearing a blazer, a white tailored shirt and tie should be worn, although the tie is optional.  Alternatively an open-necked white tailored shirt, instead of the Club shirt, can be worn with a bomber jacket, or white bowls jacket.  Currently, the wearing of a white polo-style shirt, except for play, is not currently permitted. Grey trousers are usual, but white playing trousers (not shorts) can be worn. On hotter days, after the match, the Captain of the day may advise members wearing a tie, and/or blazer that they may remove it if they so wish. Shirts should be worn tucked into trousers, when wearing a blazer,
Exceptions:  On President's and Captain's Days (first and last days of the season), blazers and tailored white shirts and ties to be worn.  The Men's Committee reserve the right to request that blazers and tailored white shirts and ties be worn for certain other matches as well. Members must read availability sheets to determine whether Club shirts, or tailored white shirts with tie, must be worn in play, and dress accordingly.
EVENING MATCHES
Formal Statement:  Club or white shirt and grey trousers. White, grey or brown shoes. Bomber jackets or blazers to be worn as with afternoon matches.
Interpretation: The same interpretations apply for evening matches as for matches in the afternoon.  The only differences are that grey trousers are worn instead of white, no shorts are permitted, socks can be grey or white, and grey shoes may be worn.
ROLL-UPS:  It is requested that a Club or white shirt, and grey trousers are worn.
COMPETITIONS and MARKERS:  Club, or white shirt, and grey trousers.  However, for the finals day, ‘whites’ should be worn.
RAIN WEAR
Contrary to popular belief, the game of bowls can be played in the rain, providing that the green has been passed fit by the green-keeper, and subsequently, by the Captain of the day.  Water-proof white or light cream protective coats and trousers may be worn whenever it is raining, or when there is a threat of rain.  Coats may incorporate a hood.  An umbrella may be employed.
TRAINEES
Advice on dress for ‘Trainees’ is included in the “Training” section. There is a relaxation in dress code for non-members whilst in initial training; shoes whilst not strictly bowling shoes may be worn providing that they have minimum tread with no heal, although wetter conditions may prohibit the wearing of anything other than flat-bottomed bowling shoes.
